There’s always more!

I have been known to use little phrases and tag lines over the years and only one has stuck… ‘There’s always more!’ There is a reason why this one still continues with me and I thought it might be worth sharing.

As a young aspiring musician and worship leader setting out on my journey, I was privileged to be surrounded by pastors who saw something in me worth investing in and also protecting. One Pastor in particular often brought encouragement but not without a warning… “before I encourage you Steve, don’t get a big head…you did a great job today, well done!”   In fact only in recent years has he removed the warning from his encouragement.

I learned very quickly that pride is very dangerous and actually destructive, so I’ve done everything possible to remain humble, realise I’m not perfect and strive to improve.

So long as I believe ‘there’s always more!’, I’ll be aware that there are others better than me, others more skilful, other’s more humble, others more successful, others more knowledgeable etc. I suppose you could say that this tag line has become my own personal reminder that I don’t know it all and have a long way to go. Yes I can receive encouragement for my accomplishments or apparent successes perhaps following serving at a worship event, but knowing there’s always more, for me keeps me humble and helps me to remember just where these talents came from in the first place.
